MINUTES FEBRUARY 2019

Lincoln Hills RV Group Minutes

February 14, 2019

The meeting held in Kilaga Springs Placer Room at 4:30 was called to order by President Steve Beede with 35 members present.

President Beede said there will be the Lincoln Hills Home Owners Association Annual Club Fair on February 26 from 10 am to 1 pm at Orchard Creek Lodge.

This year there were 350 homes sold with 700 new residents who might like to learn about the RV Group.  We will need to schedule members to man the table, two per hour for the three hours.  Steve said he will get photos of the club in action and print a flyer for the table.  Anyone who has photos of RV rallies, please contact Steve.

A sheet of paper was passed around for members to sign up and we have more than enough members who volunteered for the Annual Club Fair.  Steve thanked us for supporting the club in this way.

Also, Steve told us about the 20th anniversary of Lincoln Hills Sun City and the HOA will publish a book with photos of each club.  Steve will write the article and needs three good photos.

He reminded us he intends to project photos up on a screen perhaps by the next meeting.  We will need both individual photos of members by their rigs as well as action photos at events.

Minutes – The minutes were approved as posted online.

Steve introduced new members, Margaret and Al Giuliani and guest, Gary Seitliff who talked about their long interest in RVing.

Membership – Sharlene Zielinski said the first new members of the year were the Giulianis.

Treasurer’s Report –Steve gave the report as Bill Bisson was out of town.  The financial Report was approved as posted online.

Sunshine Report – Lynda Fagan reported that John Masters is not doing well and is in hospice with leukemia.  A card will be sent to him.

Rallies – Vice President Susan Brenden asked for reports on Rallies in progress and the Arizona group is still travelling, though weather is colder than normal.

Solvang – Margie Housley reported that thirteen members have signed up to go to Solvang March 18-22 so there are currently no vacancies.

Santa Cruz – Vicki White talked about the Santa Cruz trip on April 14 -20 and said she has applications for those wanting to go.  She has organized trips on the Roaring Camp Railroad, a Catamaran Bay Tour and golf at the beautiful Seascape Golf course.   There many things to do in Santa Cruz for example, we can hike in the nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and take a picnic lunch.  You can go to the UCSC arboretum, see the Natural Bridges State Beach, go to the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and pier, see the Mystery Spot, or go to the colorful town of Capitola with good restaurants and the Light House and Surfing Museum.  There are Whale watching tours and the famous Shadowbrook Restaurant.

Yosemite May 12-17 – Susan said there is no wagon master for that trip and when she asked if someone would step up, nobody raised their hands.  The trip will be cancelled.

Shasta/Rogue River/Bend/ and Calgary Stampede June-July – Steve said that on all legs of the trip, people will make their own reservations.  So far, reservations have been made for Mt. Shasta, for Rogue River, for “Sisters” in Bend, Oregon, for Kennewick, Washington and even though it is the fourth of July, they were able to get into Couer D’Alene.  People are coming and going at different points ending up at the Calgary Stampede.  You can come back any way you want.  If anyone is interested in joining the group on any leg, call Steve about reservations for where you want to go.

Graeagle August – We need a wagon master for this event.  Renee had said she would help if someone will be wagon master.

Marina Dunes – Sept. 23 -28 – Lynda and Bill Fagan will soon be getting an application out.

Susan Brenden continued her report by talking about the survey she sent out to the members.  To learn more about 2020 trips, Susan called and talked to many RV parks who said when booking, they want full payment.  They will not hold sites for groups.  She said she received a few surveys back.

The first survey question was:  What is your preferred length of trip?  Four to five days was the most popular.  When she asked for a show of hands, there was no majority.

How long a drive each day?  In the survey and in show of hands, the answer was 4 plus hours per day driving.

What kind of trip do we want?  Visit new places, social, golf, dining, beach and arts and crafts were all mentioned.

Northern California was the most popular area.  One member mentioned the roads in Southern California were bad.

Dee Cole suggested she would head up putting together spur of the moment short trips to get out of the heat or cold weather.

Gary Seitliff, the new guest, asked if the club would ever plan a trip to Alaska.  After a discussion, Steve said it would not be a club trip but that he would solicit our Members who had RV’d to Alaska to lead a discussion on planning and executing an Alaska RV trip.  Gary said he would be interested in going to Alaska with another couple from the club in the summer of 2020.  Steve suggested Gary could also go online to find a company who does staging for RVs who would go together to places like Alaska.

Regarding the AED device and CPR, are you willing to be trained?  The club may offer classes because it is important for people of our age.

Susan continued with her findings for 2020 trips.  RV parks are booking earlier in the year and are unwilling to hold sites.

Susan asked if we were interested in going to Las Vegas.  She discovered a park which has a bowling alley, theater, pools and a shuttle to town.  The trip could include going on to Arizona or returning by way of Utah.

She suggested the possibility of going to South Lake Tahoe, or to Sonoma wine tasting, or to Bodega Bay.  She mentioned going to Ashland, Oregon to see plays or the music festival.  We could then go Eugene or to the Oregon coast, or to Mt. Shasta.

Susan looked into going to Cayucos, California, to Desert Hot Springs, to the Pinacles, or to Lincoln City, Oregon.

Susan asked the members to email her with your ideas for trips.

Vicki White asked about dry camping because they like staying at Falling Leaf Lake near Lake Tahoe.

Steve complimented Susan on her good job; she jumped right in.

Historian – Lynda Fagan has taken the scrap books from Jayne Clark and hopes to do more with photos.

Website – Ricki Montoya asked members to send her photos to be posted on the website.  Steve pointed out we want to be able to identify members so please send in individual photos with your rig and also group photos from rallies.  Steve thanked Ricki for her years of great work maintaining our website and sending out emails to the group.

Steve asked if there were birthdays, anniversaries or new rigs.  No response.

Shawn Smith and Nic Jud made an impromptu announcement that they are planning the development of RV storage condos in Lincoln. Steve received their proposal and will review, follow-up as needed, and report back to the club to determine if we want a presentation on this project.

Gary suggested we go on Google maps, put in the address of an RV park and the satellite image is great of the park.

Meeting was adjourned,

Respectfully submitted,

Marggi Holtze, Secretary.
