MINUTES
1. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 4:34 p.m. by President Mary Romo. There were 43 members plus 4 guests present.
2. Introduction of New Members/Guests: Guest Linda Bagnall came to the meeting; she is a long term resident of SCLH and has a 21’ travel van and was interested in the group. Ted and Lisa Calioutte introduced themselves, they have a 19’ travel trailer, and plan to become members.
3. Approval of Minutes: Move Approval of September 14, 2023 Minutes: Motion to approve made by Marlowe Skar, seconded by Mike Romo – motion passed.
4. Treasurer’s Report: Maureen Williams – Move Approval of Treasurer’s Report of September 30, 2023: Maureen reported reports have been posted on the website and sent out to the members. No questions were raised. Motion to approve by Steve Beede, seconded by Bill Bisson – motion passed.
5. Membership Report: Maggie Giuliani – Sharon Skar substituted for Maggie at the meeting. Sharon reported that there are 63 household members and that more new members are joining.
6. Sunshine Report: Cindy Keller – no report, just send her an email for anyone needing a card of support from the group.
7. Historian Report: Ron Darville – Mentioned he is available to take pictures of new members. Mary Romo showed the group the poster boards that Ron and Vicki White have prepared that were useful at the recent New Resident Orientation meeting. Mary asked for volunteers to be the new Historian for 2024 as Ron Darville is retiring from the position.
8. Social Chair Report: Vicki White
a. Holiday Party: Mary Carbrey – Tari Briscoe indicated the event is still scheduled for December 14th at Turkey Creek Golf Club. The application should be sent out in a few weeks.
9. Vice President Report for Rallies: Cara Roberts & Roy Deeble
a. Report on Completed and Upcoming 2023 Rallies
i. Gilroy Rally – September 22 – 26, Wagon Master Cheryl Bisson. This rally was completed with much fun at the Rennaisance Fair in Hollister. A docent led tour was enjoyed at the San Juan Batista State Historic Park. Some group members attended the PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach golf course which was free to attend. A good time was had by all.
ii. Moss Landing Rally – September 26 – October 1, Wagon Master Cara Roberts. This completed rally had wonderful weather for 5 days. Activities included golf, dinner out for the group in Pacific Grove, a behind the scenes tour at the Monterey Aquarium, walks to the beach from the RV park, and side trip to Pt. Lobos.
iii. Newport Dunes – November 12 – 17: Roy Deeble, Wagon Master. Roy reported that he sent out an itinerary of activities for this event which include a ferry ride to Catalina Island for the day as well as other activities. He still has room for sign ups.
iv. Tournament of Roses Parade Rally – December 28, 2023 – January 3, 2024, Wagon Master Steve Beede. Activities include all the pre-parade events for the marching bands, equine, and floats. Tickets have been secured. A bus has also been secured to get to the parade and back. Four spots are still open, members can still sign up at this time. Guests with RV’s are also welcome to join on this rally. Empty spots will be forfeited back to the park in early December. Some people are continuing their trip afterwards to Borrego Springs and Indian Wells.
b. Report on Upcoming 2024 Rallies
i. Catalina Spa RV Park, Desert Hot Springs. February 8 -15, Wagon Master Cara Roberts. Cara reported that she sent out a new application form. She has 3 signups so far, and spaces are still available. You must call the RV park ASAP to make your reservation. This is a very nice resort with multiple pools, club houses, pickleball courts, fire pits, hot springs. Following this event, there is a Rockabilly Festival at Lake Havasu. This is a popular event and the RV parks are already full. However, there is dry camping at Lake Havasu available and Cara recommended members contact the Lake to secure a spot. There will be honey pot and water fill services for the campground with a dump station on site. The featured performer for this year’s festival is Elvis; there will be multiple stages with 19 bands; tickets are $75.
ii. Mountain Gate RV Park, Redding. April 18 – 23. Wagon Master Ron Lunsford. The park is located 20 minutes north of Redding near Shasta Lake. Plans include exploring the Shasta Lake Caverns, a lake dinner cruise, and the Red Bluff Rodeo Round Up. He is working on preparing the rally application form.
iii. Flying Flags RV Resort, Buellton/Solvang. May 13 – May 17th. Wagon Masters Robyn Kain & Janet Phillips. Robyn has sent out the application form. First night deposits are due now to reserve your spot with the balance due later. There are many activities in the area including a motorcycle museum, wine tasting, ostrich farm, golf, etc. An itinerary will be developed as we get closer to the trip date.
iv. Coachland RV Park, Truckee. June 20 – 24. Wagon Masters are Jake Baker and Frank Mason. The rally application form has been distributed to the group. He has 9 signups so far, total 18 spots are available. Frank reported activities including a day train trip from Carson City to Virginia City; steam train rides through mining camps; touring the Thunderbird House, golfing; hiking.
v. Bodega Bay RV Park, Bodega Bay. July 8 -12, Wagon Master Roy Deeble. Roy reported that the rally is already full and has one person on the waitlist. He encouraged anyone interested in attending to contact him to be added to the waitlist, he will also try to get additional spots for the rally.
vi. Jackson Rancheria RV Park, Jackson. September 8 – 13, Wagon Master Betty Schumacher. The application form has been sent to the members. Betty asked everyone to send in their applications to Tari Briscoe as she will be out of the country on a trip.
vii. Balloon Festival, Albuquerque, NM. September 20 – October 10, Wagon Master Patty Holderfield. The rally is full, but there is a wait list if you are interested in going. RV park reservations have/are being secured. The rally will go through Bryce – Zion – Grand Canyon National Parks before arriving at the Balloon Festival site.
viii. Sugar Barge RV Resort, Bethel Island. October 14 – 18. Vicki White reported on things the group did when they went there 2 years ago. Activities included kayaking on the river and a wildlife preserve, the Max Old House restaurant that was a lot of fun with cheap drinks, a really good historical museum in Pittsburg, mining camps in the area. A wagon master is needed for this trip.
10. Unfinished Business
a. New Resident Orientation: Mary Romo reported that they had interest from several new residents who took applications with them. The poster boards were good to show what the club does and the fun times had by all.
b. 2024 Nominations for Board positions: Mary reported that nominations from the floor can be made today for any of the open positions (none were offered). The nominations from the Nominating Committee include:
i. President – Jake Baker
ii. Co-Vice President – Ron Lunsford
iii. Membership – Tari Briscoe
c. A Volunteer is need for the Historian position for 2024. This is a board appointed position not requiring a club vote.
11. New Business – Proposed Revisions in Operating Policies & Procedures: Mary explained that the Operating Policies & Procedures (OPP) have been updated to more clearly identify and list the duties of the Vice President position, and made some general formatting and other minor changes. This will be voted on at the next meeting for approval by the Club. She urged everyone to please review the documents. Following approval, the Rally Policies will be updated to align with the updates to the OPP.
12. Open Comments – Mary advised that a new State law has been passed that addresses the problematic no shows at State parks that allows persons to reserve site and then not show up with little penalty. She asked Robyn to send out the article to the members for their information.
13. Adjournment – motion was made by Vicki White, seconded by Ed Williams to adjourn the meeting at 5:20 p.m. Motion passed.
