  1. WELCOME GUESTS: Ted and Betty Galvin are residents of SCLH and were attending the meeting to see if they want to become members. They have had RV rigs in the past and currently have a camper.
  1. MEMBERS PRESENT: There were 42 members present.
  • PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: A motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting on June 9, 2022 that were posted on line to the membership was made by Gerry Samsel and seconded by Jack Orloff. The motion passed.
  • REPORTS:
  1. Treasurer’s Report (Maureen Williams): Maureen stated that all trip accounts are now closed except for the upcoming trip to Olympic National Park in September. A motion to accept the report was made by Betty Schumacher and seconded by Marlow Skar.
  • Membership Report (Sharon Skar): Sharon reported that there were no new members the past month. She reminded everyone to look over the recent roster that was sent to the members and to contact her if there are any corrections needed.
  • Sunshine Report (Gerri Samsel): It was noted that more and more members are coming down with Covid. Craig Cabrey also had recent hand surgery. Cards have or will be sent out.
  • Historian Report (Ron Darville and Mindy Emmons): Ron Darville was present and had set up a board with all the pictures taken from the last few meetings. Ron is available today with his camera to take pictures of members that have not gotten their picture taken yet. It is planned to update the website with the new pictures.
  • Social Chair Report (Vicki White): Vicki White noted that the Holiday Party will be held at Sun City Orchard Lodge on December 4th.
  • RALLIES FOR 2022 (Vicki White & Cara Roberts)
  1. June 12th – 17th, Coachland RV Park, Truckee. Wagon Masters: Coleman and Vicki White, Ron Lunsford

Report from Wagon Masters: Vicki White reviewed the fun times experienced during the recently held rally. The group went on a tour of Tunnel 6, one of the tunnels dug by Chinese immigrants, that now has become an artform of graffiti. This was followed by a visit to the Donner Historical Museum where the owner, Norm, was there to tell many interesting stories of the area, and explained the displays in the museum. Norm was also once the owner of Donner Ski Ranch, where he explained he allowed a snow boarder to buy an admission ticket, and this started the snowboarding popularity that we see now. The group also went on a tour of the Donner State Memorial Park and Emigrant Trail Museum with a docent. This was very educational and a scenic area.  Another tour was held at the Hellman-Ehrmann Mansion at Sugar Pine Point at Lake Tahoe. The group was able to tour the mansion with a docent, and the grounds were beautiful, directly on the shore of Lake Tahoe. There were boats in the boathouse, one of which was an all metal boat built for racing. The mansion was built by original founders of Wells Fargo Bank and has since been donated to the State. The weather was very nice, cool temperatures but windy sometimes.

  • August 15th – 20th, Yellowstone Holiday Resort. Wagon Masters: Tom & Sue Moe

Status from Wagon Masters: Vicky reported for the Moe’s who were not at the meeting. The rally is still a go, they are staying outside of the park so they are not affected by the recent storm and road closures. The south loop in the park is now open.

  • September 10th – 27th, Olympic National Park in Washington. Wagon Masters: Marlowe & Sharon Skar and Mike & Mary Romo.

Status from Wagon Masters: Sharon Skar reported they have an opening for the rally due to a recent cancellation. There are now 11 rigs attending the rally.

  • October 16th – 20th, Jackson Rancheria. Wagon Masters: Dean & Betty Schumacher and Roy Deeble & Elena Shroyer

Status from Wagon Masters: Betty Schumacher reported that the Rally is full with 23 coaches and may have one cancellation coming up. There are a few other persons attending that are staying at the hotel.  All persons attending, even without a rig, have been sent an application form with payment expected. There will be a hot dog BBQ the first night, and then the club room is reserved for the next three nights for attendees to use during their stay.

  • November 9 – 14: Although not a rally for our club, it was shared that there is a pickle ball rally being held at Indian Waters RV Resort in Indio. The national pickle ball championship is being held in the area. Some members of the club are attending. If interested, contact Cara Roberts at (925) 330-9397.
  • PROJECTED RALLIES FOR 2023 (Vicki White and Cara Roberts): Vicki reviewed the upcoming rallies.
  • January and February – nothing is planned as of yet but they are considering the Blythe Bluegrass Festival, which could then extend into a trip to Arizona.
  • March 31 – April 3: Lodi Wine Festival held at the fairgrounds, tickets are approximately $50 – $60 for wine tasting and events. Then it is planned to go to the Vineyard RV park in Vacaville for a few days. Activities are being planned.
  • May – Looking to schedule a stay in Buellton, CA. Once we book this event, the park will allow only 30 days for the group to book their sites.
  • June – It is planned for the rally to be held in Crater and Diamond Lakes in Oregon, but there has been difficulty connecting with the RV parks. Vicki will keep working on it.
  • July/August – Hot August nights in Reno. Yes, it may indeed be hot but it is a fun event. Looking to secure a RV park for the group, perhaps in nearby Verde. Then plan to go onto Golden Coach park in Quincy which is located near Graeagle. It was noted that the RV park in Clio (adjacent to Graeagle) is no longer working with groups so it is not likely we will be staying as a group there.
  • September – The Casa de Fruta Renaissance Fair starts September 22nd, and the group would stay at the Gilroy RV park. Next the group would go to Moss Landing from September 24th – 29th. Vicki cannot book the parks until August this year.
  • October – Yosemite National Park is the destination. Looking to book a RV park at either Yosemite Lake RV or Black Oak Casino. It was noted by members that these parks both have shuttles into the park which is very convenient.
  • Member attendees mentioned they have stayed at Mountain Valley RV park in Utah, within an hour of Salt Lake City. It is a very nice park with many amenities

including a pool, spa, pickle ball, etc. A stay at Battle Mountain could also be paired with this trip.

  1. OLD BUSINESS
    1. There will be a CPR/AED First Aid class held on Tuesday, August 2nd from 12

p.m. to 3 p.m. Mary sent out a notice to the club and several members are signed up. Each person had to go on the SCLH website and enroll online.  Once the class is completed, each person can forward a copy of their completion certificate to Maureen Williams and she will send you a check for $10. Mary will check with the trainer again about possible future classes, as the group expressed more interest in being able to sign up.

  • Updating our By-Laws, Policies, and Wagon Master Responsibilities. Sharon Skar reported on several of the changes planned for these documents.

The By-Law changes were reviewed. It is being updated to reflect how the club is actually being managed. For example, we don’t have a fixed budget, expenses are handled on a rally/event basis. SCLH does not require a fixed budget be established for a club. The fiscal year will be changed to a calendar year basis as that is how we actually operate. Many of the Secretary duties are being reallocated to the Membership Chair. The President will be allowed discretion to order an audit of the club if issues arise that require investigation. The Vice- President will assign a news letter editor. The membership dues may be reduced slightly as the club is no longer renting a storage unit. The Treasurer duties will be updated to have the monthly report approved at each meeting, and that the President also approves the report for posting to the agenda. Several other clean up items will be addressed. She expects to finalize this document in the coming month. It will require a club vote for approval.

Club Policies are also being updated. For example, we do not have a “sergeant at arms” collecting fines if you aren’t wearing a name badge. These policies do not require a club vote of approval, and will be finalized by the Board and sent out to the members.

The Wagon Master Responsibilities will be updated so that everyone is clear on what the duties are for the wagon masters. This document does not require club membership approval, and will be finalized by the board and distributed.

A draft of the proposed changes were distributed by email to the group. Sharon thanked members that had given her feedback and asked members to review the documents and advise her of any other changes that are needed.

  • NEW BUSINESS

a. Adding Honorary Membership to our by-laws: Sharon is researching the process to establish this membership category for the By-Laws. The Board has designated the Website Manager as a honorary member as she has handled this

duty for many years as a club member but no longer has a RV rig. She has volunteered to continue these duties and the Board is willing to having her perform this work for the club. An Honorary Member is not required to pay annual club dues.

  • OPEN COMMENTS – A request was made as to RV storage facilities being used by members. Several locations were named and it was suggested that a survey be sent out and the information collected and distributed as a resource document for the club.
  • ADJOURNMENT – A motion was made by Gerri Samsel, seconded by Marlowe Skar to adjourn the meeting.
