MINUTES

 

1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 4:37 p.m. by Vice President Cara Roberts. There were 38 members in attendance.

2. Introduction of New Members/Guests: Tree Justesen was present for the meeting. She just joined the club. They have a Class B rig and plan to start traveling with the group in 2024 once her husband has retired and relocated to Sun City.

3. Approval of Minutes: Move Approval of July 13 and August 10, 2023 Minutes. Ron Hartman moved approval of the minutes, seconded by Cheryl Bisson. Motion was passed.

4. Treasurer’s Report: Maureen Williams. Move Approval of Reports for July and August 2023. Steve Beede moved approval of the treasurer reports, seconded by Patty Holderfield. Motion was passed.

5. Membership Report: Maggie Giuliani – not present, no report. It was mentioned that there have been a couple of new members who have joined recently.

6. Sunshine Report: Cindy Keller – not present, no report. Club members were reminded to contact Cindy if you know of anyone who could use a card of support from the Club.

7. Historian Report: Ron Darville – stated that he plans to be taking pictures at the Christmas party. He is hoping Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be present to take pictures with everyone.

8. Social Chair Report: Vicki White
a. Holiday Party – Mary Carbrey. Mary reported that a DJ has been secured for the event. She will be meeting with the new Turkey Creek Director of Hospitality next week. The party is planned for December 14th, social hour to begin at 5:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:00 p.m.

9. Vice President Report for Rallies: Cara Roberts & Roy Deeble
a. Report on Completed and Upcoming 2023 Rallies
i. Gilroy Rally – September 22 – 26, Wagon Master Cheryl Bisson. The rally has 10 rigs going. The group will be attending the Rennaisance Fair in Hollister on Saturday, September 23rd. A tour has been scheduled for San Juan Batista State Historic Park which can be followed by a self guided tour of Mission San Juan Batista. Attendees can also pursue shopping, attending the PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach golf course (free); going to Pinnacles National Park; and sight seeing.
ii. Moss Landing Rally – September 26 – October 1, Wagon Master Cara Roberts. Activities include golf, dinner out for the group in Pacific Grove, a behind the scenes tour at the Monterey Aquarium, sunset beach walk, bike ride along Cannery Row, hike to the Point Lobos lighthouse, wine tasting in Carmel Valley.
iii. Newport Dunes – no report.
iv. Tournament of Roses Parade Rally – December 28, 2023 – January 3, 2024, Wagon Master Steve Beede. Activities include all the pre-parade events for the marching bands, equine, and floats. Tickets have been secured. A bus has also been secured to get to the parade and back. Estimated total costs are approximately $1,800 including the RV park and planned activities. This is much less than the professional tours for the same event that are charging $5,000. Five spots are still open, members can still sign up at this time.

b. Report on Upcoming 2024 Rallies
i. Catalina Spa RV Park, Desert Hot Springs. February 8 -15, Wagon Master Cara Roberts. Following this event, there is a Rockabilly Festival at Lake Havasu. This is a popular event and the RV parks are already full. However, there is dry camping at Lake Havasu available and Cara recommended members contact the Lake to secure a spot. The featured performer for this year’s festival is Elvis; there will be multiple stages with 19 bands; tickets are $75.
ii. Petaluma Rally – no interest was expressed for this rally so it is being removed from the proposed calendar.
iii. Mountain Gate RV Park, Redding. April 18 – 23. Wagon Master Ron Lunsford. The park is located 20 minutes north of Redding near Shasta Lake. Plans include exploring the Shasta Lake Caverns, a lake dinner cruise, and the Red Bluff Rodeo Round Up.
iv. Flying Flags RV Resort, Buellton/Solvang. May 13 – May 17th. Wagon Masters Robyn Kain & Janet Phillips. Robyn will be working on preparing the rally application form and getting it out for signups.
v. Coachland RV Park, Truckee. June 20 – 24. Wagon Masters are Jake Baker and Frank Mason. Jake reported that this location will substitute for the Clio/Graeagle rally originally planned for June 2024. Jake will be preparing the rally application form to be sent out. Frank reported activities including a day train trip from Carson City to Virginia City; steam train rides through mining camps; touring the Thunderbird House, golfing; hiking.
vi. Bodega Bay RV Park, Bodega Bay. July 8 -12, Wagon Master Roy Deeble. Roy not in attendance, no report. NOTE: It was stated at the meeting that the rally dates had been changed, but it was determined afterward that the rally dates are UNCHANGED.
vii. Five Spots, August 2024. – Will need to evaluate if this rally goes forward, no wagon masters yet.
viii. Jackson Rancheria RV Park, Jackson. September 8 – 13, Wagon Master Betty Schumacher. Betty stated she would be submitting the application form to be sent to the members. There are 25 sites available; members will need to make their own reservation but need to call the wagon master first to get a site number.
ix. Balloon Festival, Albuquerque, NM. September 20 – October 10, Wagon Master Patty Holderfield. The rally is full, but there is a wait list if you are interested in going. RV park reservations have/are being secured. The rally will go through Bryce – Zion – Grand Canyon National Parks before arriving at the Balloon Festival site.
x. Sugar Barge RV Resort, Bethel Island. October 14 – 18. No arrangements have been made; a wagon master is needed.

10. Unfinished Business
a. Resident Orientation September 20, 2023 – Mary and Mike Romo will staff a table for our club following the resident orientation session.

11. New Business
a) 2024 Nominations for Board positions – Cara Roberts explained that the By-Laws require that nominees for the following year Board positions are noticed on the meeting agenda for the September and October meetings, with a vote taken at the November meeting. The Nominating Committee has secured nominees for the following positions:
a. President – Jake Baker
b. Co-Vice President – Ron Lunsford
c. Membership – Tari Briscoe
d. Members in attendance can nominate themselves for a position or nominate someone else if that person has consented to the Nomination – no additional nominations were made.
e. Following Positions not due for re-election:
i. Co-Vice President – Roy Deeble
ii. Secretary – Robyn Kain
iii. Treasurer – Maureen Williams

b) 2024 Board Appointed Positions – Cara Roberts explained that the Board intends to appoint the following persons for non-voted positions:
a. Sunshine – Cindy Keller
b. Social – Mary Carbrey
c. Historian – Fred Buhler
d. Appointments to be continued:
i. IT Director – Robyn Kain

12. Open Comments
a. Medical and Air Transport Insurance – a discussion was held of the different companies that offer emergency medical and air transport insurance. Robyn Kain explained a policy that she had secured and Cindy Mason explained another policy that can be secured via membership the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and AAA. The group was interested in getting information about available alternatives. Robyn volunteered to send out a survey to gather information.

13. Adjournment – motion to adjourn was made by Dean Schumacher, seconded by Patty Holderfield. Motion passed at 5:20 p.m.
